Keemun, sometimes spelled Qimen, is a Chinese black tea born in the heart of Anhui Province in the late 19th century. Its reputation quickly spread beyond China's borders, thanks to an aromatic profile of rare elegance.
This distinctive variety won over European tea lovers from its very first exports. Our version, certified organic, brings out all the refinement of this exceptional tea. Explore our black teas to continue the tasting journey.
The fine, twisted leaves, deep black with golden highlights, release a bright copper-red liquor when brewed. This is the visual signature of this celebrated Chinese tea.
On the palate, Keemun unfolds a round, gently sweet flavour with fruity notes evoking ripe plum and cocoa. A subtle floral and woody touch rounds out this indulgent cup, with no astringency whatsoever. To compare character profiles, read black tea: which varieties to choose.
To bring out its full potential, heat low-mineral water to 100°C. Use 12 g per litre, roughly one heaped teaspoon per 250 ml cup.
Steep for 2 to 4 minutes depending on the strength you prefer: 2 minutes for a light, fruity cup, 4 minutes for a fuller-bodied brew. Remove the leaves as soon as steeping is complete. Curious about a flavoured alternative? Try Blue Earl Grey black tea.
Keep your leaves in an airtight, opaque tin, away from light, moisture and strong odours. Packed in our workshop, this tea will retain its aromas for several months under the right conditions.
