In brief: Organic Rooibos Claremont, a citrus rooibos (lemon, grapefruit, orange) lifted by cacao, cardamom and pink pepper. Brew 15-20 g/L at 100°C for 7 to 10 minutes.
Rooibos Claremont is one of our most generous creations. This caffeine-free herbal infusion builds a rare citrus-cacao-spice signature, where lemon and grapefruit meet the rounded warmth of red rooibos. A blend crafted for those who love complexity in the cup.
A close cousin of our Organic Rooibos Plumstead orange-grapefruit, Claremont takes things further with its cacao nibs and warming spices. Browse our rooibos collection to explore the full depth of this family.
The Aromatic Profile of Rooibos Claremont
On the nose, citrus arrives first and bright: vivid lemon zest, the juicy sweetness of grapefruit and the sunny warmth of orange peel. This opening echoes our finest rooibos grapefruit blends.
At the heart, crushed cacao nibs bring a deep, almost praline-like richness. Cardamom adds its camphorated edge, while pink pepper contributes a delicate, never sharp, peppery note.
In the base, red rooibos wraps everything in its woody, honeyed softness. Apple pieces, verbena, nettle and green maté weave a silky herbal backdrop, gently lifted by rose petals and lime essential oil.
- Top notes: lemon, grapefruit, orange
- Heart notes: cacao, cardamom, pink pepper
- Base notes: rooibos, apple, verbena, rose

How to Brew Rooibos Claremont
Unlike green tea, rooibos is perfectly happy with a long, hot steep and never turns bitter. That is its great strength: the cup stays smooth even after 10 minutes.
- Temperature: 100°C (just-boiled water)
- Quantity: 15 to 20 g per litre, roughly 2 teaspoons per cup
- Steeping time: 7 to 10 minutes, depending on desired strength
- Accessories: glass or cast-iron teapot, fine-mesh filter to catch the apple pieces and spices
For an iced version, double the leaf quantity, brew hot, then allow to cool before adding ice. The citrus profile shines through with a remarkable freshness, equally lovely during the day or in the evening. Try Rooibos Claremont as a cold brew as soon as the warm weather arrives.
Storage
Keep your Claremont in its original tin, away from light, moisture and strong odours. Packed in our own workshop, it retains its full aromatic freshness for 18 to 24 months. Julien Huot, owner of Thés & Traditions, personally selects every blend the house creates.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I brew a grapefruit rooibos infusion?
Bring water to 100°C, measure out 15 to 20 g per litre (roughly 2 teaspoons per cup) and steep for 7 to 10 minutes. Rooibos never goes bitter, so feel free to leave it a little longer.
What are the benefits of rooibos?
Naturally caffeine-free, rooibos is traditionally valued for its polyphenol content and gentle character. According to the ANSES, polyphenols contribute to protecting cells against oxidative stress. An ideal hydrating drink, morning or evening.
What does Rooibos Claremont taste like?
Three flavour families intertwine: bright citrus (lemon, grapefruit, orange) up front, cacao and spice (cardamom, pink pepper) at the heart, and honeyed rooibos in the base, rounded off with rose and verbena.
How should I brew rooibos to bring out all its aromas?
Use just-boiled water at 100°C and be generous with the leaf (15-20 g/L). Cover the teapot while it steeps to keep the volatile citrus essential oils in the cup where they belong.
